World Series Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American average was 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
