Jair Bolsonaro detained after being considered a risk of fleeing
Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.
The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in September and handed more than 27 years in incarceration, but he was staying under confinement pending court reviews.
High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after "new facts" came to light.
This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could "allow for a potential flight.
Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns
In a filing authorising the detention, Justice Moraes said information from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's plan to remove the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his getaway".
This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the protest called by his son.
His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a senator, called for a gathering of his supporters near his father's house to take place on the weekend.
His son wrote on digital networks on Friday: Will you battle for your country, or observe everything from your phone there on your settee? I invite you to battle with us."
He said the vigil would be so supporters could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our land."

Part of the judge's decision was the possibility of his "relocation to embassies near the residence, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of arranging to ask for protection through a consular facility", a declaration said.
The judicial paperwork emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, Brazil's capital, is situated around 8 miles from his dwelling.

His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow right-wing populist American leader Trump, causing him to enact a 50% tariff on imports of Brazilian goods.
He is being detained in a federal law enforcement building in Brasilia and will undergo a imprisonment assessment on the following day.
Recent Judicial Appeals
It was only on Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the High Court to allow him to serve his whole jail sentence under domestic detention, with tracking devices.
They also asked that he be allowed to depart his residence for medical treatment, saying he required ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other health problems.
Context of Sentencing
Bolsonaro was found guilty of orchestrating a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the 2022 election to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a scheme which included plans to murder Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been managing the former president's case.
The scheme was prevented because it didn't receive the endorsement of the armed forces officials. Lula was took office without problem on the first day of 2023.
But a week later, on January 8th, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised government buildings in the federal district, BrasÃlia.
The law enforcement stepped in and around approximately 1,500 persons were detained.
The justices found that the rioters had been incited by Bolsonaro whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, restore order and return him to office.
At the period, the legal team called the over 27-year sentence extremely harsh.
He was also barred from running for public office until twenty-sixty - a decade minus two years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.
The one-time head of state called the trial a "witch hunt and said it was aimed at blocking him participating in the next presidential race.
